METRO Foods Trading Ltd is one of Cyprus's leading local supermarket retailers, serving shoppers through a modern hypermarket network across the island. Established in 1982, METRO has grown into a trusted grocery destination with a strong local presence, a broad fresh food and household assortment, and a customer experience built around convenience, quality, and reliable store execution.

As METRO continues to scale its retail operations, the company is working with ZKONG to accelerate digital shelf transformation across a six-hypermarket rollout network in Cyprus.

Challenge

For a high-volume supermarket and hypermarket operator, shelf-edge accuracy is a daily operational priority. Price updates, promotional changes, product information, and category adjustments all need to move quickly from central systems to the store floor, especially when thousands of SKUs are managed across multiple locations.

Traditional paper labels create heavy manual workload for store teams and make it harder to maintain consistent shelf information at scale. With each METRO store planned to carry around 30,000 ESLs, the project required a digital shelf solution that could support large-format retail operations, reduce repetitive manual work, and help stores respond faster to changing pricing and promotion cycles.

Solution

ZKONG partnered with METRO Foods Trading Ltd to deploy ZKONG Electronic Shelf Labels across its Cyprus hypermarket network. The rollout is already taking shape, with three stores deployed and approximately 80,000 ZKONG ESLs installed so far. The solution includes ZKC26V-NE4 and ZK26SF-N labels, supporting METRO's shelf-edge digitalization at supermarket scale.

By connecting central systems directly with shelf labels, ZKONG ESLs enable faster price updates, stronger information consistency, and more agile store operations. Instead of relying on paper label replacement, store teams can keep shelf information synchronized digitally, helping METRO improve execution across categories while preparing the network for continued expansion.

This deployment is more than a label replacement project. One shelf at a time and one store at a time, METRO is building a smarter retail network in Cyprus, with ZKONG ESLs helping turn shelf management into a faster, more connected, and more scalable part of daily store operations.
